GM's Indian engine plant starts production on November 12

GM’s new engine plant in Talegaon, India will be officially put into operation on November 12, 2010. This is the first GM in the world to produce gasoline and diesel engines at the same time. This engine plant costs 230 million U.S. dollars and has an annual output of 160,000 engines.

This factory can produce four engines. Initially, this factory produced a one-litre engine on the Beat model.

PBalendran, GM’s vice president in India, said that the Beat model was the first diesel vehicle to carry engines produced by General Motors India. Beat will be listed in the first quarter of 2011. Beat, which is powered by compressed natural gas, will also be available within a few months.

So far, GM India has stated that it will produce a 1.2-liter gasoline engine and a 1.4-liter diesel engine in the future. Balendran said that GM India will produce five models, namely three light commercial vehicles and two passenger cars.
