Alewijnse receives order for modified ship power system
Dutch ship systems integrator Alewijnse Marine Systems has received a contract to convert an important power system for the Belgian government's marine research vessel "RV Belgica".
It is reported that the "RV Belgica" celebrated its 30th birthday in 2014, named in 1984, 50.9 meters long, 10 meters wide and 1,200 tons of displacement, so it needs to be refurbished in order to continue to serve for another 7 years. The ship has been signed a maintenance agreement by the Belgian Navy and Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque, a subsidiary of the Damen Ship Repair and Refit Company.
Alewijnse will be responsible for a number of important systems during the retrofit process, including retrofitting of main switchboards and replacement of batteries, propeller systems, diesel equipment control systems and navigation lights. The ship's window scraping system and bridge console will be partially replaced with additional fire detection systems and CCTV systems. Alewijnse will also deliver new wing and alarm and monitoring systems.
The conversion work began in April 2016 and is expected to take several months to complete.
