257 scientific and technological achievements won industry science and technology awards

On November 21, the 2014 China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation Science and Technology Award Awarding Conference was held in the Great Hall of the People. A group of individuals and individuals honorably stood on the podium, and 257 scientific and technological innovation achievements won awards and were implemented in the industry. Innovation plays an important role in driving development strategies.

35 achievements won the Technology Invention Award. Among them, China National Petroleum University (Beijing) and other units completed the composite ionic liquid carbon tetraalkylation technology—CILA project won the special prize for technical invention. Another 222 achievements won the Science and Technology Progress Award, including the completion of ultra-deep well drilling technology completed by Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum Group and other large-scale oil fields in the extended oil zone, the ongoing production of stable production exploration and development key technology projects, and the Sinopec Petroleum Engineering Technology Research Institute. The research and industrialization application project shared a special award for scientific and technological progress. Gu Xiulian, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the Tenth National People's Congress, awarded the award certificate to the representative of the unit who won the special award.

Li Yongwu, President of the China Petrochemical Federation, presented Professor Zhaojian Zhao's Innovation Achievement Award and the 200,000-Year Special Fund for Science and Technology Award to Professor Chen Jianfeng of Beijing University of Chemical Technology. The conference also awarded honorary certificates and trophies to the eight comrades who received the Outstanding Contribution Award for Youth Science and Technology and the three teams that won the Innovation Team Award. In addition, the conference awarded 56 companies, 6 industrial key laboratories, 5 industrial engineering laboratories, and 3 industrial engineering research centers newly identified as China's chemical industry technology innovation demonstration companies in 2014.

Gu Xiulian expressed her warm congratulations to the collectives and individuals who have won recognition. She pointed out that in the first three quarters of this year, the total profits of China's petroleum and chemical industries fell by 1.8% year-on-year, and the industry has reached a new stage where it must rely more on scientific and technological innovation to support industrial transformation and upgrading. She hopes that everyone will increase their awareness of hardships, overcome difficulties, and make greater achievements in the journey of technological innovation.

Li Yongwu pointed out that compared with previous years, this year's award-winning project has two outstanding features. First, intellectual property protection has been further strengthened, and second, the number of award-winning young scientists and technicians has increased significantly. In this year's 35 technology invention award projects, a total of 351 invention patents were granted, with an average of 9 items each. Among them, there are 7 projects that have been granted 21 international patents. For example, the first-class award for technical inventions created the high-efficiency agricultural bactericide fluconazole and its industrialization project, and developed the highly effective bactericide pyraclostrobin with complete independent intellectual property rights, which reduced the cost of pesticides used by farmers and the impact on the environment.

Young talents are the new force for technological innovation. According to statistics, of the major participants in this year's industry science and technology progress award-winning projects, young talents under the age of 45 account for 57.8% of the total, of whom less than 35 years old accounted for 23.2%. The industry has made positive progress in the development of youth scientific and technological personnel, and has become an important force in promoting the scientific and technological progress of the industry with the most creativity and plasticity.

The Special Fund for Science and Technology Awards for Petroleum and Chemical Industries, which was just established last year, for the first time this year awarded bonuses to units and individuals that received special awards, first prizes for technological inventions, outstanding contributions to science and technology and innovative team awards, including a special prize prize of RMB 100,000. The first prize for technical invention was 60,000 yuan.
